Transportation

Carnegie Mellon is located at the junction of three major neighborhoods (Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, and Oakland) and is within walking distance of restaurants and shops. However, there are many transportation options, visit Parking and Transportation Services for a list of possibilities.

Campus Shuttle and Escort Service

The university operates two separate transportation systems for the convenience and safety of our students – the Shuttle Service and the Escort Service.  The shuttle service runs 2 different routes one which travels through and has multiple stops within the Oakland area of the city and the second which travels to the Pittsburgh Technology Center (PTC) in Hazelwood.  A valid Carnegie Mellon ID Card is required in order to make use of the shuttle services.  This service is available to any cardholder with a valid ID including faculty, staff, students and all affiliate card holders.  Visit the Campus Shuttle and Escort Service page for more information.

Pittsburgh Port Authority Transit (PAT) Transportation

Carnegie Mellon ID cards can be used to gain access to free transportation throughout the city on the Port Authority Transit system.  This privilege is extended to any benefits-eligible faculty or staff member and to any degree seeking graduate or undergraduate student who pays the PAT fee for the current semester.  Eligibility for the PAT program is noted on the front of the ID card by a white bus icon.  Questions regarding PAT access eligibility may be sent to the Card Office at idplus@andrew.cmu.edu where we will work with the appropriate decision makers to determine a card holder’s PAT bus eligibility.  Affiliate card holders are not eligible for the bus pass nor can the Card Office charge affiliate card holders an additional fee in order to add this benefit to an affiliate card.  More information regarding PAT including schedules can be found on the Port Authority Transit  website.  Alternately, you may also search for bus schedules at BUSKARMA.
