Graduate Student's Work Used in Milosevic Trial
Statistics doctoral student JANA ASHER was part of a research team whose results were used as evidence in the war crimes trial of former Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevic. Asher and her team (made up of statisticians and human rights activists) examined data and concluded that the statistical evidence is consistent with the Yugoslav forces' campaign of expulsions and killings in Kosovo in spring 1999, rather than the fault of NATO and Kosovo Liberation Army actions. An article on the report appears in the March 22, 2002, issue of Science magazine.

Undergraduate Wins Graduate Study Awards
Physics senior CARL DAHL has won the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Award of Excellence for Graduate Study for the 2002-2003 academic year. Dahl, a native of Duluth, Minnesota, will begin graduate school at Princeton University in the fall. His main interest is in theoretical high-energy physics, and he plans to eventually conduct research in physics either as a professor or at a national lab. Dahl also received a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate fellowship from the Department of Defense.

Past Chapter President Wins Outstanding Teaching Award
